SFMTA fosters a cooperative spirit and participation in musical activities among music teachers of Santa Fe and vicinity. We promote the study of music for any interested persons of this community and provide opportunities that will further the development of students through performance and evaluation. We promote and encourage high musical standards. As teachers of music, we are committed to furthering and enhancing our professional education.
Our activities include regularly scheduled meetings; professional development through workshops and master classes, conventions, and the MTNA magazine and PMTNM newsletter; and teacher performance opportunities through informal salons, community outreach, recitals and concerts.
For students we offer individual teacher studio recitals, an annual SFMTA teacher/student recital, the performance evaluation program (PEP), college and adult recitals, master classes, and ensemble recitals. In addition, there are student competitions at the district, state, and national levels, and a sonata contest each spring in our local chapter.
